Together We Rise: Celebrating Women in Construction Week 2025

Manson Editorial Staff

The people we collaborate and interact with each day influence us in ways we don’t always realize in the moment. Research shows that building meaningful connections in the workplace leads to greater employee satisfaction and engagement, increased opportunities for innovation, and higher levels of productivity. But it also just feels great.

For Women in Construction (WIC) Week, we’ve asked our colleagues to share stories about women at Manson (past and present) who have positively impacted their lives. These short snippets highlight the ways that we can and do take care of our people, and it’s nothing short of inspiring.

Office Managers: Wonder Women of the Workplace

By Melanie Erdman – Office Manager, Seattle Office

In every office, there are those who keep things running smoothly, anticipate problems before they arise, and ensure that the workplace remains productive and pleasant. We are lucky enough to work with some of these amazing individuals. I want to thank the other office managers who support our Manson regional offices: Jennifer Stuessy, Jeanne Semper, Jennifer Jaccuzzo, and Cathy Hubbard.

Office managers are the backbone of our operations. Their responsibilities are vast—from coordinating schedules and managing supplies to handling administrative duties and supporting employees. These “Wonder Women of the Workplace” keep things running smoothly and guide us through the intricacies of our office processes and procedures.

Office managers fulfill critical behind-the-scenes roles. They are often the first to welcome new-hires, ensuring they feel supported from Day One. They readily embrace every culture and engagement initiative thrown their way. And they offer care and support when they see an employee who needs it. Manson is truly lucky to have these incredible women leading the way!

The Power of Friendships at Work

By Jacqueline Parenteau – Administrative Assistant – Survey Group, Jacksonville Office

Since joining Manson, I have found my female colleagues to be accepting, supportive, and always willing to answer questions to help me succeed. A strong network of female coworkers helps to create a positive and collaborative work environment.

Some of my greatest allies have been Cathy Hubbard and Roxanne Buckland, whom I have had the pleasure of working with for the past 8.5 years. Their patience and positivity make the workplace more enjoyable for everyone.

I was new to town when I first started at Manson and had no friends. Kristina Simankova was one of the first people to befriend me, inviting me to lunch and fun activities outside of work. She was so much fun to be around and would provide advice when I had challenges at work. She was an amazing artist and was always painting pictures for friends. Sadly, Kristina passed away suddenly in a tragic car accident that deeply affected us all. In her memory, Cathy and I organized a GoFundMe to dedicate a colorful memorial bench at a local dog park, reflecting the bright and wonderful person Kristina was.

Hidden Gems Collaborating with the Field

By Alex Merlo – Project Sponsor, Jacksonville Office

There are many incredible women at Manson, but I’d like to give a special shout-out to a few hidden gems that make life easier for those in the field. The job can be a hectic rat race, and mistakes happen. Thankfully, these fantastic women step in to save the day with kindness and grace.

Bien Nguyen, Payroll Specialist

  • Bien Nguyen, Payroll Specialist, Seattle Office, relentlessly catches payroll mistakes before they happen, ensuring our crew gets paid correctly. Her kindness extends to helping when hours are missed and additional checks need to be cut.

  • Denise Wells, Payroll Clerk, Seattle Office, has the patience of a saint when it comes to correcting certified payrolls—sometimes multiple times.

The field is incredibly lucky to have them working at Manson!

A huge shoutout for WIC Week to Cindy Mitchell, who works in our Houma office! Cindy has been with Manson for a long time and rarely gets the recognition she deserves. She plays a crucial role in keeping operations organized for the cutter suction dredge ROBERT M WHITE—managing purchasing, hiring, training, and various logistics with ease.

The controlled chaos of a cutter suction dredge operation is enough to make anyone’s head spin, but Cindy keeps things on track with a smile. Her Manson Hub knowledge is impressive, and she keeps our guys accountable for staying up-to-date. She is a pleasure to work with and deserves all the accolades!

The Strength of Women in Construction

By Taylor McRae – Project Engineer, Jacksonville Office

Connecting with fellow women in our field has influenced my personal and professional growth. Having a support system of strong, understanding women who push you to be your best is truly impactful.

I would not be where I am without all the amazing people I have worked with over the past five years at Manson. From showing support through a shared meal, to yelling about the day followed by watching some trash TV to unwind, each person brings their own specialized support, and I know I can count on these people to be there for me when I need them most.

The pursuit of progress for women in the industry continues to motivate me. My relationships at Manson are built on trust, compassion, and mutual support.

While many of my closest colleagues are spread across the country, distance has not hindered our friendships. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world with some of these incredible women, and I know these are lifetime friendships.

A Special Shoutout to Two Amazing Women

There are many great women at Manson, but I want to highlight two exceptional individuals for WIC Week:

Caitlin Daly was one of the first people I met during my internship. She was kind and helpful and has grown into an amazing leader and knowledgeable teacher. I’m excited to see where the future takes us—hopefully on lots of projects together!

Taylor McRae quickly became both a friend and mentor. I met her during my second internship. She is hardworking and knowledgeable and always supports others by being an excellent role model. Our shared love for travel and professional growth makes our friendship truly special.

Overall, I'm very happy to say that I have found both great friends and family in the women at Manson Construction. We're lucky to work with such a wonderful group of people!

Closing Thoughts

The stories shared for WIC Week 2025 showcase the profound impact that women at Manson have on their colleagues and the company. Whether running offices, supporting field operations, fostering strong friendships, or modeling leadership, their contributions are invaluable.

To all the incredible Women in Construction: Your hard work, dedication, and support do not go unnoticed. Thank you for making Manson a better place every day!
